EL James has revealed she has seven actors and actresses in mind for the leading roles in the film adaptation of Fifty Shades of Grey.

James told the audience on US talk show host Katie Couric that she had drawn up a shortlist of seven actors - but she wouldn't name names!

'I have, I think, three people who could play Christian and about four who could play Ana. And I'm not going to tell you any of them,' teased James.

There has been much speculation about who will take on the role, with Ryan Gosling favourite to play the male lead in the 50 Shades of Grey movie.

James's husband Niall Leonard further fuelled the Ryan Gosling rumour, saying he was the frontrunner 'the last I'd heard'.

The film rights to the book were acquired by Universal Pictures and Focus Features in March.
