Russell Brand files for divorce from Katy Perry

They set tongues wagging by spending Christmas apart, and now Russell and Katy will go their separate ways for good

Russell Brand and Katy Perry have split after just 14 months of marriage, it has been confirmed.

The pair, who have been plagued by separation rumours for months, first set tongues wagging earlier this week, by celebrating Christmas 7,000 miles apart.

Now it seems things are over for good, after Russell filed for divorce at the Superior Court in Los Angeles today, citing 'irreconcilable differences'.

‘Sadly, Katy and I are ending our marriage,’ the British comedianconfirmed in an official statement.

‘I'll always adore her and I know we'll remain friends.’

Official court documents, which name Katy as Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson, do not give a date of separation, but reportedly list 'community property assets,' suggesting the pair may have signed a pre-nuptial agreement.

The couple reignited talk of a split when they celebrated Christmas on separate sides of the ocean - Katy in Hawaii and Russell in Cornwall - and added further fuel to the fire by appearing out without their wedding rings.

One of Hollywood's hottest couples, Russell and Katy married in a lavish Indian wedding ceremony back in 2009.

Katy has yet to comment on the split.
