Cassis Bistro isn't the sort of place you'd pop in for a quick bite, it's a special occasion kind of restaurant, that is, of course, unless you're a foodie with a lot of cash to spare.
Nestled in the heart of Kensington, on Brompton Road, the clientele of Cassis varies; on the table to our left sat a very elderly, cute and exceedingly wealthy couple who had clearly toddled over from their nearby pad for a quick bite on the cook's day off, to our right was an enthusiastic group of businessman while elsewhere sat families, a lone writer tapping into his laptop and three girlfriends catching up on the latest gossip.
You can make of the Cassis experience what you want. My guest and I went to town ordering pre-dinner cocktails and the seven-course tasting menu (£65) with wine pairings for each course chosen by the head sommelier.
The menu consisted of sea bass tartare, cod brandade served with black olives and confit tomato, caramelised Landes foie gras with rhubarb marmalade, saffron risotto, aubergine tortelli, pan-fried Devon lamb rump followed by a selection of sweet treats.
We practically rolled out of Cassis at the end of our long and very enjoyable evening. Full, happy and ready for a post-feast slumber.
