Where? West Side, Wimbledon Common, London SW19 4UE (020-8879 1464)
Anyone for tennis? Don't even think about getting a reservation during the annual Wimbledon tournament unless you've booked months in advance, but this destination restaurant - housed in the stunning Cannizaro House hotel - is worth a trip year round.
Love all? It's cool meets high class here with funky modern art on the walls and traditional white linen napkins on the tablecloths. The result is strangely endearing. Older diners - the ones next to us came complete with tweed jackets and leather elbow patches - mix happily with hip, young couples who've come to enjoy champagne on the outdoor terrace, with its stunning views across Cannizaro common.
What's being served (sorry, couldn't resist)? Dishes here rival the artwork on the walls with presentation worthy of a Michelin-starred establishment. If you can bring yourself to slice into the stunning creations, try the terrine of glazed goat's cheese, potato, white truffle and macadamia nut pesto (£6.95) or, for main, pan-fried fillet of John Dory (£22.50). Our favourite choice on the dessert menu: rice pudding ice cream with pistachio cake and strawberry juice (£7).
Rain stopped play? If it's too cold for drinks on the terrace, the sleek Cannizaro Bar serves great pre-dinner cocktails.
Or, for a little escape… If you want to go Womble spotting, Cannizaro will happily create a delicious hamper with snacks and drinks for you to take off onto the common.
