28 per cent of women in London feel unsafe using public transport, even in the day

Over a quarter of women feel unsafe using London public transport whether it's night or day.

28 per cent of women feel unsafe using the bus or tube in London compared to 15 per cent of men according to a YouGov survey for the End Violence Against Women Coalition.

Co-chairwoman for the coalition, Marai Larasi says the findings confirm what we already know. 'Thousands of us are worried about our safety if we choose to travel alone.'

'And many women and girls in London actually do not feel able to travel after dark because of these fears.'

1,047 Londoners took part in the survey which the coalition of charities is using to call upon the mayor to make London a safer city as almost twice as many women fear using public transport as men.

'We call on all mayoral candidates to address these survey findings during their campaigns and on whoever is elected to hold a summit on women's safety on London public transport, says Larasi.
