Baby name has been inspired by Twitter
Lo and behold, the power of social networking. A hashtag, used on Twitter to mark keywords or popular topics, has also recently become the name of a newborn baby.
Taking to Facebook to make the announcement, it appears that one mother has christened her newborn baby girl Hashtag Jameson.
While it is not clear whether the birth announcement is a joke or not, many consider the little girl to be a living embodiment of the degradation of the English language. Others, have simply despaired for the mother.
‘Hashtag Jameson was born at 10 oclock last nite. She weys 8pounds and i luv her so much!!!!!’ was the caption which accompanied the fast-becoming infamous photo.
The social networking-inspired name is not the first to have made headlines, however, with an Israeli couple last year naming their daughter after the Facebook ‘Like’ button.
The Israeli couple spoke on their choice of name, saying: ‘In our opinion it’s the modern equivalent of the name Ahava [Love].’
Baby names are becoming increasingly diverse, as research based on Office of National Statistics figures revealed earlier this year.
