It seems men are just as concerned with their appearance as women with UK beauty salons reporting a 66 per cent increase in the number of male clients.
The nationwide survey of beauty salons found that although haircuts are the biggest request among male clients, the demand for hair removal, manicures and tanning sessions has reached record highs across the UK.
'Our customers are telling us that they are seeing a huge and increasing demand from men asking for beauty treatments,' says Richard Hull, managing director of Salon Services UK & Ireland who commissioned the survey.
The survey of over 1,500 hair and beauty professionals suggests men are almost on a par with women when it comes to spending on beauty products.
The average bill for a male hair cut, tanning and massage is £92.00 compared to £112.00 for women having the same treatments.
The research also highlights the rise in job opportunities in the beauty industry because of this trend. The growth of the male market could create an extra 11,000 roles during the next 12 months.
