How Posting An Underboob Selfie In Thailand Could Get You Five Years In Prison

Thai women could face up to five years in jail if they share photos of their lower breasts on social media.

The Thai government has warned women that they could face up to five years in jail if they post 'underboob selfies' on social media.

An apparent current social media trend that involves women posting photos of the lower part of their breasts could be in violation of Thailand's Computer Crimes Act 2007, which bans material that causes 'damage to the country’s security or causes public panic' or 'any obscene computer data which is accessible to the public'.

The culture ministry said women could face up to five years in jail if they took part, as posting the so-called 'underboob selfies' were equivalent to sharing pornographic images.

'When people take these ‘underboob selfies’ no one can see their faces,' ministry spokesman Anandha Chouchoti told Reuters.

'So it’s like, we don’t know who these belong to, and it encourages others to do the same.

'We can only warn people to not take it up. They are inappropriate actions.'

The Thai military government has long faced criticism about its censorship laws, particularly over films, music, television and some western cultural practices.
