Donna Karan showed off her diffusion line's A/W'12 collection to a full house on a freezing day four of New York Fashion Week. With the iconic skyline printed onto the runway and the yellow taxi used as a backdrop again this season, the show was unapologetically dedicated to the 'true New Yorker'. The look was sharp, smart and slick - think Debbie Harry does Ginsberg and you're halfway there.
The good news is, we're not going to go chilly this winter. Models wore double breasted coats, furry jackets and cosy looking puffers with bandeau belts. The leather sleeve was back, worn with buckled fur collars, exposed zips, peplums (still) and panelling. All this detailing was saved from looking too fussy by a simple palette of black, dusky blue and crimson - as worn by the brand's ambassador and the show's 'frow' VIP, Twilight star Ashley Greene.
Accessories were minimal, with the odd metallic clutch, classic Chelsea boots and chunky platforms worn over opaque tights (or ‘blackout legs’ as Donna Karan calls them).
Eveningwear was allowed to be a little more whimsical with silk and georgette maxi-dresses in jewel tones and a lone floral print in navy, white and turquoise that trellised-up prim printed dresses and pussy-bow blouses.
Models wore sleek low ponytails and minimal make-up – with the exception of a heavily kholled Cara Delevingne who closed the show to rapturous applause. The DKNY feel for fall? We like.
