London’s boy wonder wows with another dazzling collection – a riff on bad taste materials from leopard to moiré. Blood red moiré, violet leopard print, flocked giant florals – Christopher Kane revels in making the thoroughly unappealing become suddenly cool and with his latest collection, which was presented on a wide violet carpeted catwalk in the One New Change shopping centre in the city of London, he looks set to give all of the above fashion kudos. It was a dramatic move away from the luminous pastel metallics that Kane focussed on for spring – from the get go it was clear that the young Scot was celebrating a more down and dirty rock ‘n’ roll girl who will happily wear a blood red moiré patterned dress cut-out across the midriff and edged in puffy black leather piping when she’s next hitting a downtown club. As always once you recover from the visual jolt that Kane routinely delivers there was plenty here to covet – especially the fabulous mohair cable knits which looked most alluring in violet. It will definitely be on many editor’s must-have lists for next autumn.
