New reality TV show encourages models to lose weight
A new model reality TV show that encourages contestants to lose weight is set to air in America.
MTV's Model Maker is currently in production and asks girls who are pretty enough to be models but do not have the waif-like figure to walk the runway, to lose weight to achieve their dreams.
A rep for the show explained the weight loss will be achieved 'in a healthy and realistic time span'. Contestants who wish to apply must be between 17 and 24, 5ft 9" and 6ft tall and 9 to 13 stone.
With the fashion world awash with size zero models and unhealthily thin girls, surely a TV show encouraging weigh loss will simply exacerbate the industry problem?
The show is the brainchild of model manager Michael Flutie, who will 'spearhead the transformations' according to the press release. The girl who successfully loses weight wins $100,000, a modelling portfolio and a personal trainer for a year.
Various models have spoken out recently about their battle to remain thin. Coco Rocha admitted using diuretics when she weighed 7.5 stone which left her doubled over in pain.
