The big news in the fashion industry today: Marc Jacobs may be discontinuing his affordable little sister line, Marc By Marc Jacobs.
Currently helmed by British design duo Luella Bartley and Katie Hillier, reports suggest that a company restructure will see the popular diffusion line close immediately, making February’s AW15 show its final one on the New York Fashion Week schedule.
But don’t go panic-flogging all your favourite MxMJ bags on Ebay just yet. The news has not yet been officially confirmed by the designer and WWD suggests that the popular accessories arm of the business will be absorbed by the mainline brand.
The Marc By Marc Jacobs brand is estimated to bring in around 70% of the entire company’s sales annually, with items like umbrellas and lip balms retailing for less than £20. Marc’s concept of accessible luxury isn’t expected to be scrapped (everyone still loves a designer bargain, after all) and it’s predicted that he will just be bringing all this and more to his main collection.
