Marks and Spencer introduces the first high-street J-cup bra
MARKS AND SPENCER IS the first high street store to introduce a J-cup bra size into its lingerie range. The previous largest size stocked in store was a G, but a GG, H, HH and J will now all be added to M&S's selection.
Responding to the UK's growing bust size, larger bras have seen a huge increase in sales, doubling in the last three years. At M&S, the best-selling bra size has risen from a 34B to a 36C in the last five years, and a quarter of all bras sold are a DD or above.
Head of lingerie at M&S, Soozie Jenkinson, commented on the change, 'We are seeing a larger proportion of younger women with larger cup sizes… Previously these women have had to go to specialist fitters to get bras custom-made. Now they can buy them on the high street.'
Research suggests that raising bust sizes can be attributed to a number of factors, including increased use of the contraceptive pill, less exercise and increasing weight.
The M&S range will initially be sold on the internet, and then will be trialled in store if proven successful.
