Nicolas Ghesquiere has got stuck in a time warp for SS15 - with gorgeous results
With its epic new art museum, the Foundation Louis Vuitton, officially opening later this month, its clear that brand LV is looking to the future.
The new Frank Gehry-designed building formed a perfect setting for this morning’s show, at which, in his second season at the helm, designer Nicolas Ghesquiere took us through a time warp where Seventies style hits were given an intergalactic twist.
As the music from Close Encounters started playing, UFO-look light beams lined the runway and a series of giant avatars took over the space, proclaiming Vuitton’s epic new structure to be ‘a ship’ and ‘an incubator for creative thinking’. All very Hunger Games-esque.
Jean Campbell opened the show (add this girl to your ones to watch list) wearing what we can now declare to be a Ghesquiere-at-Vuitton signature - a vintage-worthy minidress.
Next the throwback prints emerged to rule the runway – think Mustang motifs and plenty of flower power borrowed from 70s interiors textiles.
The IT-item of the season? Mid-rise velvet flares which came in about 6 different colour and print-ways. But don’t write these styles off as retro has-beens. Everything in the LV woman’s SS15 wardrobe was re-imagined for today, made modern with patent trims, sharp, nipped waists and covetable monogram chain bags.
