The Eighties came good at JW Anderson's AW15 London Fashion Week show this afternoon, as the designer worked patent, corduroy and a whole lotta lurex into beautiful (and relevant) new forms. We went behind the scenes as he counted down to the show – these are our favourite backstage spots...
The Technicolour Boots Let’s start from the bottom, shall we? J-Dubs has delivered some stomping great patent boots to see us through next autumn in glorious style. These and the bags were what everyone was cooing over backstage. In sweetie colour combos with giant floral buckles, these make JWA the king of statement footwear.
The Designer In Action Jonathan does the final check of every single look before it goes out to the eagerly awaiting fash pack. Down to the wire he kept his cool, ensuring that even the tiniest details (mismatched earrings, gorgeous graphic belts) were totally pitch perfect.
The New Highbrows ‘The girl we’ve been inspired by is one who’s young, out partying and really experimenting with make-up for the first time,’ MAC make-up artist Mark Carrasquillo told us. ‘Maybe she's seen her mum pluck her eyebrows and she’s tried to copy, and so we’ve got this super-high-arching brow as the focus of the look. We've bleached and powdered the real brows and created this new high line way above the brow bone. It's kind of an optical illusion.’
The Pound-Shop Hair ‘We got these combs from a pound shop,’ L'Oréal Professionnel hairstylist Anthony Turner told us of the plastic centrepieces holding his undone updos together. ‘Considering the girl we’ve been inspired by, I thought these might have been the sort of thing lying around her flat. The quicker and messier I do the hair, the better it looks, as it can’t be contrived. This girl’s thrown it together. It's not good taste, it’s not glam hair, it’s fun.’
