Donna Karan's diffusion line concept is roaring through its 25th anniversary year. Proving that the label has just as much relevance now, and is still pushing the envelope, she gave her AW14 show an injection of real punk CBGBs attitude.
Think street casting, fierce tunes (rounding up nicely with Sid Vicious's version of My Way) and a collection with a reassuring edge. Lots of red, black and white, cool oversized plaid parkas, sweaters edged with sequins and lashings of grunge-glamour faux black fur.
With hardly a model in sight, this was an homage to Donna's beloved NYC in all senses, and her line up included Angel Haze, DJ Julianna Huxtable, artist Stewart Uoo and jewellery designer Ilisah Ulanga, the real residents of NYC.
It felt cool, modern and actually a pretty bold statement and show of real diversity.
Tonight she unveils her 30th year Donna Karan collection down on Wall St. Who knows what might happen...
