Dakota Fanning has made her first venture into film directing, for Miu Miu no less. The actor unveiled her short film, 'Hello Apartment' at a private screening at the Curzon Mayfair during London Fashion Week.
The 15th of Prada's Miu Miu Women's Tales, directed by women (previous shorts have been directed by Chloe Sevigny, Zoe Cassavetes and Agnès Varda) and exploring women's universe, it stars Eve Hewson as the protagonist who moves into a flat in Brooklyn, New York, and has a tempestuous affair with a British man played by Tom Sturridge.
The apartment soon becomes part of her personal history as it sees her through the best and worst parts of her life, laughter and break ups - all the while wearing fabulous Miu Miu outfits, though they are cleverly integrated into the story rather than taking the limelight away, which is no mean feat.
In fact, Dakota said she had carte blanche for the project, with no obligation to show Miu Miu clothes in a prominent way at all, as the focus is the women in the story.
At the screening, Dakota told us that the story was actually inspired by her own life and her flat, which she's been living in for the past few years. It's 'a shrine to experiences' she added, as she too went through a break up while living there.
Dakota also revealed she would definitely direct again after receiving a round of applause for her debut, which will also be shown at the Venice Film Festival later this year.
