The original selfie was first taken in the film Thelma and Louise, according to co-stars Susan Sarandon and Geena Davis
Susan Sarandon and Geena Davis, who drove off the big screen as Thelma and Louise are just clearing up a little misconception about the selfie. Basically, they invented it, all the way back in 1991.
Long time friends Sarandon and Davis reunited recently, 23 years after the famous film’s release, to recreate their original Polaroid pic, claiming ownership to the social media phenomenon.

Susan Sarandon shared the photo on Twitter with the caption, ‘Inventors of the #selfie at it again. #ThelmaAndLouise.’
We thought about it and decided it was probably best NOT argue with them.
