Proof That Hollywood Actresses Get Paid Less As They Get Older

New research has revealed the exact age that Hollywood actresses start to earn less, suggesting a very clear gender split could still exist in the industry.

Unless you happen to be on a level with Meryl Streep, women over the age of 34 could face less pay in the acting world.

The Journal Of Management Inquiry looked at the top 265 earning actresses and actors in Hollywood films from 1968 to 2008, finding that there is some truth to the myth that actresses get paid less as they get older.

According to the results, a female actress' average salary per film steadily increases in her 20s, before plummeting after she turns 34. In comparison, male actors will see their pay packet peak around age 51 and shows no signs of decreasing with age.

'Men's well-worn faces are thought to convey maturity, character and experience. A woman's face, on the other hand, is value for appearing young,' the study claims.

Talking in a 1995 interview, Sarah Jessica Parker said famously: 'Actresses are like football players. They have a small window of prime earning ability.'

At a tome when Angelina Jolie, Julie Roberts and Cate Blanchett are ruling the silver screen, it's hard to believe Hollywood's starlets are facing less pay because of their age.
