The Essex singer put on a brave face as he arrived at the special Talk Talk show, held at the Swanky Hospital Club in Soho last night, but the singer seemed downcast as he described the struggles with his ‘painful’ voice.
'Everything has been feeling poorly recently. I was recording earlier and it was getting very painful, so I can't sing tonight,' he told reporters.
'I just have to hope it gets better for the weekend. There is not much else I can do.'
Although Matt turned out to support his fellow contestants, and put on a smile for the cameras, insiders say the star is really suffering.

'Matt is in a bad way and is trying to put a brave face on it,’ one source revealed to the Daily Mail.
‘If things don't improve he is going to really struggle for the semi-final and it could ruin his chances.'
One Direction star Zayn Malik was mysteriously absent from the secret gig last night, but bosses declined to reveal the reason the teen heartthrob didn’t attend.
Instead his fellow band members cryptically told how he had skipped the show due to 'personal reasons'.
'Zayn has got some personal problems so he is not here right now,’ Liam Payne said of Zayn’s absence. 'We can't elaborate but we hope he is going to be ok.'
