The Duchess of Cambridge has become patron of four different organisations

Kate Middleton's royal role enters another phase as her four chosen charities are announced.

The Duchess of Cambridge began researching which organisations she'd like to support in September of last year and has finally made the important decision.

Kate, who turns 30 on Monday, is now the patron for Action on Addiction and the National Portrait Gallery, and royal patron of East Anglia's Children's Hospices and The Art Room, said St James's Palace.

She will also become a volunteer in the Scout Association, volunteering time privately with groups in north Wales and elsewhere as the opportunity arises.

In a statement, the Palace said: 'The Duchess' first patronages and her volunteer position reflect Her Royal Highness' personal interests in the arts, the promotion of outdoor activity, and supporting people who are in need of all ages, especially young children.

'The Duchess' new roles reflect Her Royal Highness' wish to support the Royal Family's work in highlighting important causes in the charitable and voluntary sector and the arts. The Duchess has chosen to support organisations that complement the charitable work already undertaken by her husband.'

Each organisation was personally chosen by the Duchess and the decision was something she took very seriously.

The Palace spokesperson added: 'The private programme undertaken by The Duchess consisted of meetings at St. James's Palace and private visits to a number of sites. In addition, The Duchess personally considered all requests for Patronage that were sent to her.'
