How Hugh Grant pocketed a cool $21m in one sweet afternoon
HUGH GRANT YESTERDAY made a cool $21 million in one sweet afternoon when he sold an Andy Warhol print of Elizabeth Taylor.
The other 'Liz' in Hugh's life, the painting has been hanging in Hugh's home for six years after the actor himself bought it at auction for just $3.6 million, ensuring himself a nice little profit following yesterday's sale.
So what's Hugh going to do with all that money? Buy more art, apparently.
Amy Cappellazzo, of Christie's in New York, which presided over this week's sale, said 'the seller of the Liz is taking advantage of the strength of today's market and turning his attention to work by younger artists'.
Hugh's painting was one of 13 in a series Warhol painted of Elizabeth Taylor during the Sixties. The previous record for a piece from the series was $12.6 million, paid by jeweler Laurence Graff in May 2005.
