Singer insists he was 'stone cold sober' at time of terrifying crash
George Michael has spoken out about his terrifying car crash in the early hours of Friday morning, insisting he was 'stone cold sober' at the time.
Despite being taken in for questioning by the police after the incident, the singer insists he was not at fault for the pile-up, which took place just outside Reading.
A spokesperson for Thames Valley Police confirmed that George had been taken into police care after the accident, but released without charge some time later.
'Officers were called at 1am on August 14 to a collision on the southbound carriageway of the A34, approximately two miles north of the M4,' said the official.
'It was between a silver Land Rover and an articulated lorry. The driver of the Land Rover, a 46-year-old man, was arrested at the scene. He was taken to Lodden Valley police station where he was questioned and released at 5.55am.'
In a statement released on Saturday, George Michael hit back at claims by the driver he hit that he had appeared 'dazed' after the accident and had been 'weaving all over the place' before crashing into the back of a lorry, saying: 'Neither of us was charged because we were both stone cold sober. We both think the other is to blame so this is just an insurance fight.
