The Next Day outsold second place Bon Jovi two to one
David Bowie's first album in a decade has topped the UK album chart, becoming the fastest-selling of the year so far.
The Next Day is Bowie's first number one album in 20 years, since 1993's Black Tie White Noise.
The record outsold second-placed Bon Jovi two to one, selling 94,000 copies.
Bowie shocked the world in January when he released his first single from the album, Where are We Now. It was rumoured he had retired from music after leading a reclusive lifestyle in New York.
The single reached number six on the singles' chart.
Hilariously, the cover of the Next Day - Bowie's iconic Heroes cover with a white block over it - has even become an internet meme.
Bowie is also being celebrated in an upcoming V&A retrospective, opening later this week (March 23).
In the singles chart Justin Timberlake is currently #1 with Mirrors, followed by One Direction's Comic Relief cover One Way or Another (Teenage Kicks). Read our star stories Bowie feature in the April issue of marie claire - out now!
