A Los Angeles court has granted Kurt Cobain’s mum and sister guardianship of seventeen-year-old Frances
Troubled Courtney Love has lost custody of her daughter for a second time.
Seventeen-year-old Frances Bean Cobain, whose dad was Nirvana rocker Kurt Cobain, will be cared for by her late father's mum Wendy, and her aunt, Kimberley Dawn Cobain.
Papers granting the temporary custody order, which sees Frances Bean stay in her grandmother's care until February, were filed at a Los Angeles court house on Friday. A full guardianship hearing is pending.
Former drug addict Love, 45, was not mentioned in the legal proceeding and no official reason for the move has been given.
However Courtney's lawyer Keith A. Fink said, ‘ Courtney's been clean for years and is perfectly fine'.
‘This is simply about Frances preferring to live with her grandmother at this time.'
It is not the first occasion, however, that the former Hole singer - who became a single mum after Cobain's suicide before his daughter was two - has lost guardianship of her young daughter.
The Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services gave Mrs Cobain legal custody of her granddaughter in 2003, following Love's accidental overdose of the painkilling drug OxyContin and an arrest for attempting to break into an ex-boyfriend's home.
On that occasion, Frances Bean, who was then aged eleven, remained with her grandmother for almost two years.
Last year, Frances told a US magazine that her grandmother was ‘probably the person I respect most out of anybody in the world'.
