Sad news, Gleeks. Glee newcomer Chord Overstreet has been announced as the first cast member to get the axe in an upcoming shake-up of the hit singing show.
Back in June Glee creator Ryan Murphy confirmed several cast members would go in the coming year, as the McKinley High kids graduated from school and went on to bigger and better things.
Speaking to US Radio host Ryan Seacrest, the famous Glee creator revealed the cast were behind the move, designed to make the show as realistic as possible, adding: ‘I don't think of it in terms of eliminating or replacing.’
‘The thing that I wanted to do and the cast wanted to do, we didn't want to have a show where they were in high school for 8 years. We really wanted it to be true to that experience.’
Now, in a surprise move, newcomer Chord Overstreet – who plays transfer student Sam Evans in the show - has been announced as the first actor to face the chop.
According to movie website Deadline, Darren Criss and Harry Shum Jr – who play Blaine Anderson and Mike Chang – will be promoted to regular cast members, while Ashley Fink A.K.A larger than life character Lauren will also have her role reduced.
Yesterday, Chord took to Twitter to express his disappointment. 'Well its been a good yr too bad its over,' he wrote. 'Time for summer and starting fresh.'
It’s not yet known for sure which other cast members are leaving next year, although it’s thought lead stars Lea Michele, Cory Monteith and Chris Colfer could be among those who go.
