Britney Spears' lawyer explains reason behind custody ruling
BRITNEY SPEARS' LAWYER has revealed that she lost custody of her children because she was accused of not taking a random drug and alcohol test and she couldn't provide a California driver's license.
After a hearing on Monday, a judge ordered that Britney hand over custody of Sean Preston, 2, and Jayden James, 1, from today 'until further order of the court'.
Although LA Superior Court Commissioner Scott Gordon did not outline his reasons in the written ruling, Spears' attorney, Sorrell Trope, explains: 'We weren't able to provide compliance with what the judge ordered.
'Specifically, the judge ordered that by 10am (Monday) morning, both parties show valid California driving licenses. I've been unable to produce evidence of that.'
After handing her boys over to one of Federline's bodyguards on Monday, Britney applied for a California driving license later in the day.
Trope also reveals that Kevin's team claim Britney failed to complete a drugs test.

'There was a claim by Mr. Federline's attorney that she had not complied with a previous order the court had made - before I came on board (as lawyer) - about having a random drug and alcohol test,' Trope told People magazine, adding: 'There's no evidence that she actually failed a test.'
However, the courts see failure to take a test as tantamount to not passing it.
Another hearing is set for today.
Meanwhile, Britney's aunt, Chanda McGovern, last night revealed fears the custody ruling could send her over the edge - and called for her to seek solace at home in Louisiana.
Speaking to The Sun, she said: 'We are worried about suicidal tendencies in her. Everything is spiralling down and she has not got a backbone – a family member to help her (in LA).
'We fear that one day we may turn on the TV and hear she's done something terrible to herself…whether it be intentional or accidental, there could be a drugs overdose.'
