Bob Geldof speaks for the first time about death of Paula Yates
BOB GELDOF HAS spoken out for the first time about the suicide of his ex-wife Paula Yates in 2000, and how he has helped their daughters cope. Paula died from a drug overdose three years after her husband Michael Hutchence hung himself in a hotel room in 1997.
Describing Paula's death as 'an enduring nightmare and horror,' he also discussed their divorce in 1994, when she left him after 20 years of marriage and began and an affair with the INXS singer.
He commented: 'You live this life for this great 20 years - she was brilliant, funny, gorgeous and I loved her very much. And then she falls in love with someone else. Like everyone else in that situation, you find it very hard to understand and yet you have to and then there are the nightmares and horrors that follow.'
He added, 'You can imagine, you lose the person you love once and then you lose them completely, utterly, totally.'
Geldof had three daughters with Yates; Fifi Trixibelle, Peaches Honeyblossom, and Pixie, and he is also now legal guardian to Yates and Hutchence's daughter Tiger Lily. He described his daughters as 'mad, funny and doing well.'
