Top British detectives have been called upon to join the hunt to find Madeleine McCann.
Some of the most experienced retired or soon-to-retire police detectives from across the country have been approached by the Find Madeleine Fund, which is now being subsidised by Brian Kennedy, the owner of Sale Sharks rugby team.
Madeleine disappeared from her family's holiday apartment in Praia da Luz in Portugal in May last year.
It is understood Chief Supt Steve Heywood, head of Greater Manchester Police's (GMP) serious crime division, is one of the detectives asked to provide a list of suitable officers.
Meanwhile, Kennedy has reportedly already had a meeting with former Det Supt Andy Tattersall, who retired last year and was involved in the Jill Dando murder case.
Spokesman for the McCanns, Clarence Mitchell said of the news: 'Kate and Gerry McCann, the fund and its backers have always sought to employ or use the very best people and resources in the search for Madeleine.
