NYFW kicks off with a trio of hot hair trends
The weather may be icy, but the cool factor was definitely turned up a notch with today's smorgasbord of shows. Having got to NYC by the sheer might of the fashion Gods (even as we were flying over the Atlantic the captain said he was 'hoping' we'd get to JFK ok!), I was three hours late but it meant I got to start off with a goodie.

Alexander Wang is always the hot ticket of New York Fashion Week and not even the weather could temper its hotness. With 'cognac' coloured hair extensions courtesy of Redken's Guido it was the visual hot toddy I was in desperate need of (did I mention it's cold here?).
Next up, was another hair hottie at Alexandre Herchcovitch (try saying that when your face is frozen). Us beauty journos always like to see a 'look' and Bumble & Bumble hairstylist Rolando didn't disappoint with a half braid/half sleek concoction that showcased two new products due out in the summer (my lips are sealed!).
Further cool factor came from Tibi (but more of that to come) and also Altuzzara, my last show of the day. Our favourite French fancy Tom Pecheux conjured spooky chic thanks to MAC's inexhaustible repertoire, whilst Butter London went nude (on the nails, that is). Over on hair however, Paul Hanlon's 'two-day old, rock 'n' roll hair' was, despite its title, having to be washed in dustbins as the models turned up from Wang with enough gel to give Ross from Friends a run for his money. All in the name of fashion, eh?

New York Fashion Week Backstage Beauty: 5 Ways To Nail The Natural Look
There are two things to be learned from loitering backstage at New York Fashion Week: 1. Being subjected to Joan Smalls’ razor-sharp cheekbones and general serenity when you’re quite tired is not good for the self-esteem. 2. The just-rolled-of-bed, natural look is in for AW14.
