Almost half of women admit to dislking their face without make-up
An American study has found that almost half of women are unhappy with their make-up free face and wouldn't be seen without their warpaint.
The Harris Interactive research, conducted for the Renfrew Center Foundation, found that women are increasingly using make-up to hide behind, rather than accentuate their facial features.
Of the 1,292 women surveyed, 44 per cent say they feel negative about themselves when they are bare faced, associating their natural look with unattractiveness.
16 per cent admit admit they do not feelattractive without make-up, and 14 per cent say they feel naked and self-consciouswithout cosmetics.
Adrienne Ressler from the Renfrew Enter Foundation says that while make-up is a right of passage for young women, dependence can mean that it acts as a screen to hide behind.
'Make-up no longer becomes a tool for enhancement but rather a security blanket that conceals negative feelings about one's self image and self esteem,' she says.
This unhealthy reliance on make-up could lead to more worrying problems with women building a negative perception of themselves.
