If you always had the ambition to cook and serve the Queen, then this might be your chance. The Royal Household – a must-follow if you’re interested in working for the British royal family – is currently recruiting a Sous Chef and a Kitchen Porter and both roles offer the option of live-in accommodation at Buckingham Palace.
That’s right. You would live in the Palace.
The positions of Sous Chef and Kitchen Porter are both full time, but on different levels. For the latter ‘previous experience is not necessary, but you will be interested in working as part of a professional hospitality operation,’ according to the printed vacancy. Your tasks will include: maintaining the kitchen and clear-up areas, as well as assisting with food preparation.
To qualify for the position as Sous Chef, a background in premier catering and knowledge of the classical French cuisine are required. Working alongside the Head Chef, you will be developing menu items for events, managing stock levels and ensuring the day-to-day smooth running of kitchen operations.
If you’re thinking of applying, don’t forget that the Royal family has a protocol when it comes to food. According to Darren McGrady, the Queen’s former personal chef, she cuts back on carbs such as pasta, rice and potatoes, as well as shellfish and garlic.
Practical information, in case you get that interview.
