Easy Escapes: The Roseate Villa, Bath

If you’re looking for a city break that’s not a million miles from the capital, combines culture, cute coffee shops and quaint cobbled streets, and has enough to keep you busy for a long weekend away, look no further than Bath. While you’re there, check in to The Roseate Villa - a charming boutique hotel that’s enveloped by lush greenery, but also within walking distance to the heart of the city. Bridgerton fans, this one’s for you.
Why Go
Less than a fifteen minute walk from Bath Spa train station and just a five minute stroll from Pulteney Bridge, the 5* Roseate Villa is tucked behind the city’s winding streets, overlooking Henrietta Park - a gorgeous leafy haven which was originally opened to celebrate Queen Victoria’s Diamond Jubilee. Comprised of two converted Victorian houses, the hotel itself oozes quiet opulence from the outside, and inside, it strikes the balance between luxury and comfort. The staff are incredibly friendly and attentive, so guests are well looked after with top quality service - sans stuffiness.
The Vibe
Stepping through the doors, you’ll be welcomed by a delicate mix of classic and contemporary touches. Crisp white walls are the backdrop to warmer accents, like the bookcase wallpaper which lines one side of the reception area and the unmissable spindle staircase. The breakfast room - which also serves afternoon tea - is bright, airy and overlooks the park through large bay windows, making it a picturesque spot for cakes and bubbly. While the feel is luxurious, it’s also understated - think elegance over extravagance.
The Rooms
When you book with Virgin Experiences, you’ll enjoy a stay in one of the Deluxe rooms on the property. Complete with a separate vanity area, king sized bed, plush chaise longue and bay windows boasting traditional Victorian shutters, it once again blends subtle luxury with modern comfort. You’ll find a robe, slippers and toiletries neatly placed upon arrival, and a bathroom stocked with Penhaligon’s miniatures. Delightful.
The Food and Drink
The breakfast offering at Roseate Villa is, in a word, excellent. From the continental menu, choose from a range of juices, fruits, cereals and freshly-baked croissants. For a cooked breakfast, guests can opt for eggs benedict, royale or florentine, blueberry pancakes or smashed avocado toast. However, it’s the full English that shouldn’t be missed - a hearty plate of smoked Wiltshire bacon, free range eggs, old English sausage, a potato scone and black pudding, flanked by mushrooms and on-the-vine tomatoes. Delicious.
If you have time to stay for afternoon tea, don’t think twice. Expect a fully stocked tiered serving tray of sandwiches - from goats cheese and caramelised onion, to Bloody Mary prawns - and sweet treats that include fresh scones and petit fours that look so cute and colourful you’ll be reluctant to dig in. Don’t be - they’re superb. Wash it all down with a tea-infused cocktail (the Hibiscus Spritz is not to be missed).
So, what’s included?
As part of the Virgin Experience Days package, guests can enjoy a one night stay at Roseate Villa, plus Prosecco on arrival and a cooked or continental breakfast. For those wishing to make the most of the Thermae Bath Spa, you can also book an experience that includes a two-hour visit to the popular facility.
