Finally a bra that really does stop bouncing breasts while you're jogging
An intelligent bra developed by scientists may put an end to bouncing breasts for women joggers.
The findings published in the Journal of Biomechanics found that even women wearing the perfect size bra were at risk from injury while running, due to the strain of straps pushing down on the shoulders. The new bra could put an end to this, as it is made from a fabric that contains tiny sensors able to monitor the smallest movement in the breasts.
The study took two women, aged 30 and 39, and with size 36D and 38DD bras respectively. They monitored the women's breast movement while wearing the sensor bras, first walking and then running. The scientists were then able to pinpoint exactly wear the pressure was worst during movement.
Developed at the University of Wollongong in Australia, researchers noted, 'A consequence of current bra design is that the brassiere straps bear much of the load generated by breast momentum during physical activity. As breast mass increases, breast bounce momentum also increases, placing large loads on the straps and, in turn, excessive pressure on the wearer's shoulders.'
The findings could not be taken by bra manufacturers to develop more comfortable bars. The study added, 'Our results show that the fabric sensors are suitable to monitor breast motion and brassiere function. Brassiere designers will have the ability directly to assess the effects of changes to each brassiere component.'
