We may barely be back from the festive break but Britons are already feeling strained and stressed as we enter into the New Year, leading to strokes and other health problems.
A poor diet and a lack of exercise are also detrimental to our health, increasing the chances of suffering a stroke, according to a new survey by the Stroke Association and Siemens. The study suggests almost a fifth of people take no exercise whatsoever.
‘The research is incredibly worrying and emphasises the need for the public to be aware of the dangers of strokes,’ warned the head of corporate fundraising for the Stroke Association.
Despite suffering the highest levels of stress, more than a quarter of those aged 45 to 54 say they never exercise, while a fifth of those surveyed say they only manage 30 minutes of exercise a week.
Strokes are the UK’s third-biggest killer and Mr Beeby urges as many people as possible to raise awareness and vital funds by taking part in Stroke for Stroke Week, commencing 24th January to 30th January.
‘It’s imperative that people take regular exercise and modify their diet to reduce the risk of suffering a stroke,’ Mr Beeby concluded.
