Victory for Vionnet

Vionnet stages Paris' most chic presentation
Fresh from the success of dressing Carey Mulligan at the BAFTAs, Vionnet today staged a chic presentation in the auspicious surroundings of Jean Cocteau's apartment.
A more Parisian spot it would be hard to find (Picasso's phone number is still scribbled on a bedroom wall), making this an absolute highlight of Paris Fashion Week.
The clothes, once we'd managed to tear ourselves away from the view from the apartment's windows, were a red-carpet-worthy mix of lace, cashmere, organza and velvet.
Highly polished steel or patent leather belts kept waists cinched, while the tiniest of peep-toes on knee-high boots created a whole new footwear trend all by themselves.
Art-deco-inspired jewellery, meanwhile, provided a glittering highlight against the dark, slightly muted prints.
It's unlikely Carey will wear Vionnet again on this Sunday's Oscar red carpet (I'd guess she'll want to mix up her designers), but if she does, she'll have been spoilt for choice with this collection.
