On-trend and seriously versatile midi skirts you need in your spring wardrobe...
Midi skirts have long been on the scene, and for SS16, the ladylike hem length that sits nicely between the ankle and the knee has finally earned it's place on the fashion map and is the go-to skirt style for the new season.
On the catwalks, the mid-length was applied to everything from trousers to dresses but the biggest trend story was played out on feminine, stand-out and down-right covetable skirts. Bold striped midi styles were seen at Gucci and Acne Studios while look-at-me metallic and tassels were seen on the Loewe runway and contrast print and textures were played out at Marni, Toga and 3.1 Phillip Lim.
For styling inspo, look to the A-list and the fash-pack who have been long-term midi devotees of this universally flattering length. While Olivia Palermo wears hers with button-up shirts and sky high heels, adding an unexpected edge to this somewhat classic shape, Alexa Chung wears her straight-from the runway pleated midi skirt with a colourful knit and pointed pumps and Victoria Beckham opts for a high neck tunic for a workwear spin.
We're looking to denim to get our weekend midi skirt fix, pairing button-upA-line shapes from the likes of Zara and Warehouse with navy fine knits and flat lace-up sandals. And then for a statement eveningwear vibe, FrenchConnection, Preen and Barbara Casasola are vying for the top spot on our new season shopping list.
Those who tend to steer clear of skirts should go for a fuss-free approach to styling the midi. Go for a column, pencil shape and team with a tee and some flat shoes, or better still, some white plimsoll-style trainers. Just add a red lip and some statement sunnies to amp up your look for the evening.
So whether it's print, lace or something metallic - there are plenty of new-season midi skirt styles to choose from and covet from the office to weekend brunch and city breaks all season long.
