The Gucci Girl looks uptown for autumn/winter 10
The Gucci Girl looks uptown for autumn/winter 10
A few hours after this evening's Gucci's runway presentation and it's already being called designer Frida Giannini's 'most successful show since joining the company'.
Why? Well, rather than fall back on the sexed-up, hyper-embellished clubwear of latter seasons, Frida went uptown sophisticated for autumn/winter and the front row loved it.
From the stunning outerwear - think gorgeous cashmere or collarless camel coats and suede trenches - to the Seventies/Nineties-inspired lean silhouette, with its skinny-leg, body-con trousers, over-the-knee boots and wrap silk dresses, everything was luxurious in its finish and impeccably put together.
For evening, black was back, jazzed up with ostrich feathers, twinkling paillettes and chantilly lace, while accessories came in the form of chic gold and leather cuffs or chokers and metal-trimmed sunglasses.
Finally, the new bag range - in miniature and featuring gold chains for after-dark or in large envelope shapes for day - was all embossed with a vintage, 1973 double GG logo. We like to think it stands for Gucci Glamour.
