Vod (AKA the brilliant Zawe Ashton) turns investigative reporter for a hard-hitting BBC3 Comic Relief documentary about the hidden world of FGM (female genital mutilation).
Doing her bit for Comic Relief, actress Zawe Ashton has led a jaw-droppingly compelling investigation into FGM across the UK and Kenya for a documentary to be screened on BBC3 on Wednesday 11th March.
Her mission? To uncover what the centuries-old tradition means for the three million girls at risk of FGM across Africa - and the 65,000 who live here in the UK.
'It's not just Kenya, or Africa where FGM is prevalent, millions of girls and women around the world are affected by FGM, including here in the UK,' explains Zawe. 'I hope this documentary raises awareness of FGM and helps put an end to this practice for the welfare of the next generation of women.'
At one point Zawe makes the startling discovery that British girls are flown abroad during 'cutting season' (the school holidays) and travels to Kenya to track down a 'cutter'. Here's a preview of her encounter.
