Maggie Gyllenhaal’s character Nessa Stein was complex, intelligent, unpredictable… and seriously stylish.
One of our favourite cinema actresses, Maggie Gyllenhaal recently graced our small screens in BBC2’s The Honourable Woman, with a performance that even she acknowledged was one of her best ever.
As well as the incredible plot, artistic cinematic visuals and brilliant acting, Maggie’s character Nessa’s wardrobe shaped up to be one of the best we’ve ever seen on TV. Just in case you missed it (don’t worry, they’re still on BBC iPlayer) here’s all you need to know about the character we fell for...
Nessa Stein Is One Powerful Lady… As the series begins, Nessa's just been made head of her father’s international arms company after her brother (played by Broadchurch’s Andrew Buchanan) took a 'step back' - read into that what you will. Oh and thanks to her philanthropic work in the Middle East, she’s also just been made a Baroness. Meetings, speeches, politics, conspiracy and corruption – the lady has a lot on her plate.
Her Apartment Is Amazing Nessa’s apartment is gorgeous, glossy and sophisticated – we want it all. Except maybe for the padded cell bunker bedroom - that bit’s kind of creepy.
Her Collection Of On-Trend Cami-Tops Is Surely Unrivalled... Underwear as outerwear has really never looked so chic. Nessa does delicate slips for day, usually worn with an all-white Calvin Klein-esque power suit. Hard tailoring / soft silk combos in Celine-like colour schemes – we are so keen on this.
And The Rest Of Her Clobber Is A Power Dressing Lesson To Us All DVF-look wrap dresses for conferences. MaxMara-style camel capes for loungewear. Chanel-inspired espadrilles for charity mission work. This really is a dream TV wardrobe.

Maggie's British Accent Is Spot On It’s actually better than ours...
That Pixie Crop Is A Contender For Hair Cut Of The Year... And so versatile. Nessa slicks it back when she’s wearing a ballgown to a charity gala, spikes it up a little when she’s commanding a meeting, or sweeps it softly around her face for family time. The hair definitely deserves a special telly award all of its own.
