It was announced last week that we might be seeing less of Jennifer Lawrence on our screens, with the Red Sparrow actress explaining how she would be putting acting on the back burner to focus on projects closer to her heart, venturing into politics.
‘I’m going to take the next year off,’ the 27-year-old actress explained of her acting break. 'I’m going to be working with this organisation as a part of Represent.Us, trying to get young people engaged politically on a local level. It doesn’t have anything to do with partisan [politics]. It’s just anti-corruption and stuff trying to pass state by state laws that can help prevent corruption, fix our democracy.’
True to her word, J-Law is already getting started, less than a week after announcing her plans.
‘When Donald Trump got elected, my head exploded,’ Jennifer told The Wing in an interview on Friday. ‘I felt helpless, I felt scared, I felt devastated, and I found that the only thing I could actually do is educate myself.’
She continued: 'The more I educated myself on our government and our economic system, the more I realized everything that I care about—from the environment to public education, public healthcare, and immigration - is all affected by corruption. It doesn’t actually matter who we have in office, these problems are going to exist. That is what we have to fix.'
'I've got a pretty good speech, and it ends with a martini in the face,' J-Law explained - and it's not just Donald Trump that she plans to dress down.
'I have something to say for all of them,' she explained. 'I watch different characters on the news, and I'm like, "You just wait."'
