Earlier this month, it was officially announced that George and Amal Clooney were expecting twins, delighting us all and totally stealing Beyoncé and Jay Z’s thunder - the music duo had just announced that they were expecting twins a week before.
Unlike Beyoncé and Jay Z, however, Amal and George didn’t break the news with an Instagram snap of the mother-to-be showing off her baby bump in front of a floral display, wearing a veil - going on to become the most liked Instagram picture of all time BTW.
The Hollywood couple’s baby news was instead broken indirectly, with presenter Julie Chen announcing on the US show, The Talk, ‘Beyoncé is not the only superstar expecting twins. Congratulations are in order for George and Amal Clooney!’
The pair are notoriously private so it was surprising, therefore, that while Bey and Jay have kept tight-lipped about the sex of their twins, George and Amal’s have already been announced.
It turns out it was George’s 77-year-old mum, Nina Clooney, who broke the news, announcing ‘It will be one of each! Yes, a boy and a girl. That’s what I’ve been told’, before continuing, ‘My husband and I are extremely excited.’
On the topic of baby names, however, Nina explained that she was as in the dark as any of us. ‘I haven’t been told their names,’ she explained. ‘That is George and Amal’s department.
With the twins due to arrive in June, it looks like we won’t have too long to wait.
