The wizarding world of Harry Potter is a complicated one, one which J.K. Rowling spent many years carefully crafting. Although the last Harry Potter book was published in 2007, over the years since then more and more details have been fed to us, keeping our love for everything magical alive.
The latest one to emerge regards our beloved Hermione Granger, or rather, her patronus. And this one, guys, will blow your mind.
First, let’s refresh your memories on the significance of a person’s patronus. Usually, a patronus has some sort of meaning that relates back to that person – Harry Potter’s was a stag, just like his fathers, and Severus Snape’s was a doe just like Lily Potter’s, with whom he was in love. So, you know, they are pretty important.
Hermione’s patronus takes the form of an otter, and we may have cracked the case as to why that’s significant.

It’s worth also mentioning that J.K. has previously said that of all of the characters in the wizarding world, Hermione is the one who is the most similar to her.
On her website, she wrote: ‘I have often said that Hermione is a bit like me when I was younger. I think I was seen by people as a right little know-it-all, but I hope that it is clear that underneath Hermione’s swottiness, there is a lot of insecurity and a great fear of failure (as shown by her Boggart in Prisoner of Azkaban.’
So, does this mean that Hermione’s patronus represents how similar she is to J.K. Rowling, as it’s her favourite animal? We certainly think so…
